Jennifer Thomson
Lab Coordinator
jthomson@oeb.harvard.edu
Jenn performs the routine financial and administrative tasks in the lab.
Francesca Ponce, PhD
Francesca Ponce, PhD
Postdoctoral Scholar
fponce@fas.harvard.edu
Francesca is a postdoc interested in studying the sub-lethal effects of neonicotinoid pesticides on non-target insect species. She uses flies as a model to dissect the mechanisms by which these insecticides impact insect behavior and physiology.
Tom Alisch, PhD
Tom Alisch, PhD
Postdoctoral Scholar
talisch@g.harvard.edu
Currently working on Drosophila decision-making, field-deployable wild-fly-assaying robots, and neuronal correlates of phototactic behavior in fruit flies. Background in Psychology and Cognitive Neuroscience.
Nick Polizos, PhD
Nick Polizos, PhD
Postdoctoral Scholar
npolizos@fas.harvard.edu
Nick is interested in understanding how behaviors are initiated and modified to fit different environmental contexts. I'm currently researching how neuronal plasticity effects the variability of the Drosophila behavioral repertoire.
Danylo Lavrentovich, PhD
Danylo Lavrentovich, PhD
PhD Student
dlavrent@g.harvard.edu
Danylo studies individuality in odor preference through connectome-based circuit models and joint behavior & neural activity assays.
David Zimmerman
David Zimmerman
PhD Student
dzimmerman@g.harvard.edu
A student in the Harvard Biophysics PhD Program, David is a joint member of the de Bivort and Samuel labs. He is trying to understand the circuit basis of left-right integration in the larval Drosophila olfactory system. Before coming to Harvard, David earned a B.S. in Physics and M.A. in Art History from Stanford University.
Shraddha Lall
Shraddha Lall
PhD Student
slall@g.harvard.edu
Shraddha is an OEB graduate student working on the evolution of individuality in behavioral preferences in fruit flies. She is interested in understanding the selection pressures and genetic changes that underlie variability in behavioral preferences, with focus on left-vs-right turn bias and thermal preference. When not in the lab running selection experiments, she enjoys hiking, baking and playing board games.
Yi Lin Zhou
Yi Lin Zhou
PhD Student
yilinzhou@g.harvard.edu
Yi Lin is interested in the interplay between individuality and collective behaviors, especially in the context of collective problem-solving. She spends her time taking videos of Drosophila larvae digging, and designing problems for ants to solve.
Minsu Kim
Minsu Kim
PhD Student
minsu_kim@g.harvard.edu
After graduating from Cornell, Minsu worked as a research assistant in the Lee Lab at HMS, performing electron microscopy (EM) imaging to build a connectome of the Drosophila central nervous system. In the de Bivort lab, she uses expansion microscopy for studying individual variability in circuits and behavior.
Bronwyn Miller
Bronwyn Miller
PhD Student
bronwynmiller@fas.harvard.edu
Bronwyn is a 3rd year OEB graduate student investigating the mechanisms that underlie host switching between species of Drosophila. In her attempts to rear a multitude of different fly species in the lab, she has earned herself a Michelin Star in the Drosophila restaurant scene.
Andrea Loya Castillo
Andrea Loya Castillo
PhD Student
andrea_loyacastillo@fas.harvard.edu
Andrea’s interests broadly lie with the evolution of insects and how they adapt to their changing environments. The focus of her research is how insect behavior changes across species and what that looks like morphologically and phylogenetically.
Madison Sneve
Madison Sneve
PhD Student
madisonsneve@g.harvard.edu
Madison is a student in the Program in Neuroscience and a joint member of the de Bivort and Rajan labs. She is interested in measuring and modeling individual variation in neural structure and firing patterns in small brains. Outside of lab, she loves music, medieval literature, and bug catching.
Lizz Yimer
Lizz Yimer
Postbaccalaureate Scholar
lizzyimer@g.harvard.edu
Lizz is a post-baccalaureate scholar in the RSI program, with a deep interest in the mechanisms of memory storage and how memories transform and evolve over time, particularly through processes of change and adaptation. She is fascinated by the ways in which memories persist, reshape, and influence both cognition and behavior across different stages of life.
SangHoon Jung
SangHoon Jung
Undergraduate Student
SangHoon is a Harvard College student studying neuroscience. Broadly, he is interested in uncovering the specific neural circuits behind behavior. In the lab, he dissects brains, analyzes images and does immunohistochemistry.
Christina Hviid
Christina Hviid
Undergraduate Student
ch113@wellesley.edu
Christina is an undergraduate majoring in biology at Wellesley College. She is interested in studying cooperative behavior in insects, particularly ants.
Han Nguyen
Han Nguyen
Undergraduate Student
hannguyen@college.harvard.edu
Han is a student at Harvard College interested in the neuroscience behind behavior, specifically in how neural pathways and brain structures contribute to decision-making processes.
